Excellent, smooth and easy to use compact hammer drill. It does everything it says on the box, and does it very well. I bought this in the first week of August, but wanted to give it a variety of jobs to leave a thorough review. My first impressions were that it was smaller, compact and weighed much less than my 2 old diseased drills. They had the same size motors as this new Silverline, and it was just as powerful. However, power isn''t everything! I have drilled into hard bricks, ceramic tiles, sheet steel, aluminium block and soft and hard woods. The stepless speed control trigger and dial all worked very well. I even screwed some heavy duty ground anchor bolts in with it. Why pay more for a big brand when this can match their performance?! Only time will tell how long it will last, but it does come with a 3 year warranty which shows the manufacturer has confidence in their products.
The drill I received looked slightly different from the pictures in the listing. I can only assume that it has been updated, as the model numbers are the same. These differences are not only cosmetic, but improvements too. It now has some black rubber on the handle and back of the drill, which must improve the grip instead of all plastic. The little lever above the trigger for forward/reverse has been replaced by a much better, positive and robust push though switch from left side to right side forward/reverse, in the main body of the drill above the trigger. The hammer action/drill switch is on the top front end of the drill body, and is a simple slide left/right selection. The box contains everything listed. 500W hammer drill, adjustable position auxiliary handle and depth gauge, instruction book, chuck key which fits into a rubber lug on the cable entry sleeve so it doesn''t get lost, and one unlisted part. A small packet containing a spare set of motor brushes! Put these in a safe place! They are a nice extra to have, and you may need them in a few years time.
My impressions of this Silverline drill from the past few weeks while refurbishing our bathroom are:
It''s lighter weight and compact size are a lot easier on my aging hands. If I didn''t need to drill hard masonry or use the depth gauge, I found it easier to use without it on. The drill chuck seems very good quality. The motor and variable speed dial and trigger work very smoothly, but at full speed it''s quite noisy. For anything except metal, I used low to middle speeds which still got the job done. It can be used for screws in and out. The lock on function is handy for slow speed masonry drilling into hard bricks and stone. English plug fitted on a decent flex. It weighs 800g less than my old drill and cost a third of the price of it 10 years ago!
The plastic casing doesn''t feel as thick as more expensive drills, but I''m not in the habit of throwing my tools around, so should be OK. The 3 year warranty is excellent on a power tool of this price!
It''s a bargain, and I like it! Highly recommend! It gets 5***** from me!

Straight out of the box I was really impressed at the quality feel of the drill,, plugged it in and it ran so quietly and smooth , tried a few test holes with it and it felt good in my hand, too early to say anything about reliability etc. 👍

Got this drill as my Black&Decker gave up after many years of use. I have other tools from silverline. So I purchased the 500w hammer drill. Great drill better that my old B&D as it has speed control and forward and reverse. It''s has a plenty of punch for drilling into walls and the slow control start is perfect for drilling into tiles os they don''t crack. Although a DIY drill it feels substantial enough to withstand quite a bit of abuse. Not week or cheap feeling like some budget drills costing much more. So if you are after a great DIY drill I don''t think you could do any better than this.

I have lost or lent out my 30 year old hammer drill and wanted another so checked out drills for DIY use. I''ve bought a Silverline hammer drill which seems powerful enough for what I want with a decent warranty, at a very good price, so what else does a diyer want or need? So I''m recommending it!

the only problem I have found with the drill is the chuck key. It does not fit into the chuck too well (the two gears were not engaging effectively) as a consequence I have had to machine a little bit of metal off the spigot length and immediately below the key gear teeth to ensure that the two gears mesh properly and dont slip when you are tightening the chuck

Purchase only two weeks ago. Used it to drill masonry holes of 10mm diameter and in a thin steel plate. Works well and the speed can easily be governed by the trigger or button. On the downside, the chuck key does not fit well as if it belongs to a different chuck which is a bit of a let down.

Purchased a week ago so too early to evaluate. I have drilled masonry with a 10mm bit and small holes in steel without a problem. It has the power on various speeds and comfortable to use. On the downside, chuck key doesn''t fit chuck properly and feels like it belongs to another drill.. Chuck holder is a flimsy bit of plastic which will not last long. However, good value for money, especially with a 3 year warranty. Time will tell.

I was very pleasantly surprised when I came to use my new "Silverline" drill for the first time, it performed every bit as good as a much more expensive drill. The "feel" quality was excellent, feeling robust and sturdy. I was looking for a cheap but durable drill for home use and I came across silverline drill on ebay. Was looking for a corded drill with a keyed chuck for occasional use on the type of jobs that the battery drills struggle with for power. Also I didn''''t want a keyless chuck because the drill bits can be more probe to slipping and working lose. This one fitted the bill nicely at a very cheap price. I bought two of these very cheap drills because they had a chuck with a chuck key as my experience with self locking hand tightening chucks is that they fall apart. However the chucks on these vibrate loose and are not good enough quality. The consolation is that they are guaranteed for 3 years

I picked this drill up at my local Toolstation for a bargain price. It is absolutely bulletproof, i have used it for drilling masonry, wood and even with a polishing wheel to restore the aluminium on motorcycle wheels. Definitely recommend it, the 3 year guarantee is a bonus!

I saw the 3 year warranty and thought it must mean it''d be reliable or they''d only cover it for a year. Sadly with mine, this was not the case... After a few weeks it just stopped working! I''m disappointed! :(
