I was looking to replace my garden fork with something sturdy that wouldn’t get bent tines, so I picked this one. However, it’s poorly designed and I wouldn’t recommend it. • The fork head isn’t wide enough, being narrower by a couple of centimetres than my old fork. • The steel stem joins the head with an angled buttress on each side, which makes the shoulders of the head narrow, and, coupled with the first point, means that I can’t get my foot onto the shoulder. My old fork had a shoulder about 10cm wide, but this one is only half that. • The tines are square section from shoulder to their end, with no tapering. At the end the section is flattened and gives a chisel end. A digging fork ought to have tapered tines with a round section, ending in a point. I couldn’t get this fork to go into some hard ground, but could with my old one. • The steel stem is joined to the plastic handle about half-way down the fork, but it’s not a smooth transition. For some reason there is a small gap which is filled with a plastic ring, and which protrudes, and as I’m used to the shaft moving through my hand smoothly this is annoying. On this fork the ring didn’t sit flush, due to steel debris in the gap it was supposed to occupy.

I bought a set of fork and spade, buying the stainless steel thinking it would be better quality. Spade ok if a little flimsy compared to my old steel one. Unfortunately the fork lost a prong within a few months of light use so not good.
